I have disassembled this list into bare minimums. All planets will link to their articles, with no descriptions. Keep with this format please. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:57, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

I propose that planets be marked with regional tags, e.g., 'Core Worlds', 'Outer Rim planets', etc. These could be sub-cats of Planets. --GenkiNeko 14:21, 3 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Alphabetical is really the best way to deal with this article. I have already copied lists of planets from TheForce.net and am waiting for a response from the author of their CUSWE. There are roughly 5000 planets in there.
As for detailing regions, this can be done in the Catalogue of celestial bodies created by Shadowtrooper. -- Riffsyphon1024 17:33, 3 Apr 2005 (EDT)
The author has not responded. Should I try again or go ahead with a move? -- Riffsyphon1024 13:28, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)
I'm not sure about moving it yet. However, (I think you already know this , but I'll go there anyway) if you move them now, just know that the people from CUSWE reserve the right to request that the info be removed. Shadowtrooper 18:52, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)
The only things I am taking are the lists of the planets (the names), not the info within them. Certainly acknowledging that a set of planets exist in that particular order is not a violation of copyright. Refer to my user page for more on this. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:43, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Lists are generally not eligible for copyright. For instance, you can't copyright a phonebook organized alphabetically. Copyrights require a minimum of creative effort. Now, if you organized it by favorite color, you'd have a case.--Eion 06:06, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I have posted all the lists now. Hope you Wookieepedians like it. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:14, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

WOW. When people complain about Naboo not showing up in the OT, I always say "Come on, it's a big galaxy—how many planets do you think there are?" Now I have a link. :-D -- Aidje 14:51, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
Very difficult to read the Planets of Star Wars article.

-- 222.152.236.155 17:00, 6 May 2005

How so anonymous one? I can read it just fine. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:09, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
I think it's much better read when looking for something specific. That, or just read the blue ones. --Fade 07:34, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

Notice on article

Why is this notice on the article rather than on the talk page?:

I have disassembled this list into bare minimums. All planets will link to their articles, with no descriptions. Keep with this format, but make the planet names in parentheses redirects to the planet they are next to. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:20, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

I though that was what talk pages were for: information regarding the article and its construction that someone who merely wanted to read the article wouldn't care about. -- Aidje 19:58, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

Just making it apparent to those who wanted to edit it while I was working on it, and introducing the new format. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:35, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
Okay, that makes sense. I just didn't want to (re)move your instructions without saying anything. -- Aidje 19:58, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

Planets in parenthesis

What is the purpose of having these link to the planets next to them? Why not just eliminate this extra link since it's redundant, being merely an additional redirect? Of course, the redirect could still be created, but I see no reason for it to be a link on this page. All it will do is confuse people by causing them to open the same article twice. -- Aidje 14:58, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

Yes, we can create the redirect and then erase those from the list. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:35, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
Okay. I see that the rewritten instructions clarify the matter. Thanks. -- Aidje 19:56, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
Now it's redundant because I just finished redirecting all the planets myself. ;D -- Riffsyphon1024 04:54, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

Links

Does each planet need a link, if many of them couldn't concievably be more than a substub? The way we have it now, the the links are taking up a lot of space, and it linking implies that an article to the link is possible, if not desired.-LtNOWIS 02:43, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

  • It's to allow people to fill in information outside of the oh so annoying list required on Wikipedia. As this is a Wiki just for Star Wars, we can afford to give each planet its own page, even if only a short one. And if all the information available is listed, even if it is only a sentence, it is not a stub.--Eion 02:46, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
  • Every planet gets an article. Simply put. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:53, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

Holocron

After snooping around the StarWars.com forums, I have found an interesting fact: Tasty Taste only has entries for 3,033 planets in the Holocron. So it seems 1,066 of the planets on this page are not recognised by Lucasfilm. --Imperialles 14:16, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Hmm, interesting. It's possible that they missed a few... but over 1,000? lol. --Beeurd 16:44, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
    • Many older items do not have a single holocron entry. I can't speak from fact as far as planets go, but on this page Tasty had this to say in reference to starships, which I suspect would also apply to planets:
But for older entries, such as minor ships from the West End Games RPG or the X-wing videogames, the ships are lumped together in a single entry by source, with little or no details. If those ships are used in a later source, they are then given their own entry.
jSarek
  • I know what the problem is now. Eion counted 4100 planets by using Microsoft Word's word counter. What he didn't realize was that it counted every word, not individual lines of text as he has hoped, which is why the number is larger. Alderaan would be one word, but New Alderaan would be two, and he would take that as two planets, which is not the case. So the Holocron is correct. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:36, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
  • Actually there are 3771 Planets in the List. Counted by copying it into excel and removing some lines. so there are more than 700 that are not in the Holocron. Old sources may be one cause. Another can be multiple names for a single planet that so appears two times in the list. But as this implys two articles for one planet I really hope that there arent 700 of them. --TeakHoken84.173.70.123 01:56, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Riff

I seem to be unable to move this to List of planets, so could you do it, Riff? --Imp 00:26, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Bullets

Should this list be bulleted? I would do it, if nobody objects. The current format is rather untidy looking. Or perhaps in columns?

  • Absolutely not. This format is the only way to keep the page size as small as possible. -- Riffsyphon1024 00:41, 14 Aug 2005 (UTC)

An idea for Lists and categories

I have no idea how to do this, but I have an idea to propose. When you hit a link in a list, it takes to that article, and at the bottom of the article are two links, "previous article in list" and "next article in list." Could also work for categories. Is this doable? Is there a short and easy way to do this?

  • That would take too much time and is useless when a person can still get to Category:Planets via that planet's page. -- Riffsyphon1024 00:42, 14 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Help Please;)

I've done a lot of planets, but there are still over 800 to do. Any help would be appreciated. I have listed below the planets, moons, asteroids, and stations which still need articles. If you could do even one or two, thx! After making an article, please remove the name you did off the below list:

Lists

Since lists like this one and the List of Jedi get huge, especially in their current format, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a disambig page for the list, with links to, say, List of Planets (A-M) and List of Planets (N-Z)? --Fade 16:33, 26 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • Or, they should be grouped by location (ex. Deep Core, Core Worlds, etc.). Admiral J. Nebulax 17:21, 26 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • I don't think that's as handy for referential purposes, though. It's more likely you know the name of the planet than its location in the Galaxy, especially considering that many people looking for the planet in the first place would only have minimal knowledge of it. --Fade 12:03, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • Or, they could be arranged in both ways. Admiral J. Nebulax 12:22, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
        • Yea why be forced to go with one format when we have all the room in the internet? (I still think we should have stuck to my old format instead of listing them all vertically.) -- Riffsyphon1024 23:27, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
          • What was your format? Admiral J. Nebulax 23:29, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
            • If you look right above this section, it looked like that, with each planet under its letter. One page could hold all the planets of a letter within a giant block, and maybe two or more depending on the size of the letter blocks. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:38, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
              • Then it should be like that, in my opinion. Admiral J. Nebulax 23:46, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
                • Care to ask JustinGann why he decided to lay it out as this current format? -- Riffsyphon1024 23:48, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
                  • I think you should ask him that. After all, that was your format, not mine. Admiral J. Nebulax 23:50, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
  • Yea you're right. I just wouldn't want to tell him that all that bulleting was unneccesary after he slaved over it for days. The easiest way to revert it and still include all additions afterward would be to record those new additions and then rollback to before he did this. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:53, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • I've seen sane men reduced to gibbering wrecks when looking upon the old format. Well...it was pretty harsh on the eyes. With my idea, though, the bullets wouldn't make the page into a tome, and it could still look nice. I've seen the idea used on Wikipedia on occasion. --Fade 23:56, 27 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • Well, it would be niced organized like the list of known stormtroopers on the stormtrooper page, although with "Planets (A through M)" and "Planets (N through Z)" as headings. Admiral J. Nebulax 00:28, 28 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Non-canon planets

Shall we keep Infinities planets such as Garn (planet) on this list? --Imp 02:18, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes, IMHO, but note in the article that they are non-canon. General Kenobi 02:21, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)
    • How about moving them to their own Infinities section at the bottom of the list? --Imp 02:28, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Woah

I can't access the page. What do I do? --Imp 15:33, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Avum

Is Avum fanon? Source?JustinGann 07:58, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Can't access!

I can't get past the P-s...what gives?

Yeah, the list cuts off at the Ps, anything beginning with Q or afterwards is gone! (just reworded it to make it clearer... and I have the problem too!)

Suggestion

Please take a look at the Droid list and notice how it has been turned into a table with purpose, class, and manufacturer. Would everyone be ok if the planet list was similarly made into a table with each planet's system, sector, region, indigenous race? If not, would such a table as a separate linked page me more suitable?JustinGann 16:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Aaris I, II

Why do we have a link to Aaris III, but not for Aaris I, and II? - Patricksheridan 3:40pm, January 14, 2007

  • If we're missing links, feel free to add them. That's the point of a Wikia - \\Captain Kwenn// Ahoy! 20:41, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
    • I thought we didn't assume "fill-ins, as with the moons of Yavin?JustinGann 00:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
      • I hope so. We can't assume that the names of planets always follow a certain logic. Examples: the Ropagi system (from Twin Stars of Kira) consists of Elpur, Ropagi II and Seltaya; the Bakura system consists of Bak, Kur, Bakura, Arden and Bakura-5 to Bakura-8. So IMHO we should only mention planets if their names are explicitly mentioned somewhere, not just because there is a planet with a number in its name. --Craven 00:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Yavin IV

Is Yavin IV actually considered a planet? Technically it's a moon of Yavin Prime.--Nefirus 23:43, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Detailed Table

Is someone working on this? Because right now the current format is really ugly. The first few letters have tables, then it just becomes a list without any detail. I personally favor removing the table. Chack Jadson (Talk) 13:24, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

  • I disagree. I may just be a pesky anon, but IMO the tables make it much more affective as a reference page. It certainly works better than visiting each article individually, doesn't it? But I wonder, will anyone ever finish the format? 72.179.152.13 20:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
    • I'm going to remove this table in a few days unless someone objects with a good reason. Chack Jadson (Talk) 16:31, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
      • Ah, never mind. Chack Jadson (Talk) 20:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
        • If the table that I see today is the same, I like how it looks, but I agree that the rest of the article needs fleshing out. Granted it is a huge project that can become tiresome, probably why the user stopped where they did. Will someone else pick up where they left off? -- Riffsyphon1024 20:44, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
          • I like how the table looks as well. I had some spare time and added a table to X, simply because it was the shortest letter list and took me all of 5 minutes. When I have more time, I'll get on to some of the other lists! I had to put Unknown for everything, though, so feel free to edit those! -- Shanna 21:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
            • There's only 7 letters that still need to be converted to the table format, I'll go ahead and do those since it bugs me that it's not consistent. I do have one question though, in the A table there's a column for Climate that was only partially filled. I fleshed out the rest of the column, but so far it's the only letter that has it. Should that column be extended to the other pages, or removed? I would prefer that it is added, as climate/terrain is the reason I was digging through the list this week. JaggedFel621 14:54, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

Break Things Down

This thing gets really long while looking through it. Wouldn't it make more since to break it down a little bit, at least into a couple of catagories like inhabited planets and uninhabited? Custosnox 15:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

  • And a second thought on this, it could be broken down further into prominent, or mainstream planets, and little known planets. Custosnox 15:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Formatting

I've been working on tablizeing the entire list of planets off and on. Now, the page is so large it must be broken down, although the last user to attempt such a move was, shall we say, less that successful?

So I'm proposing this forthright, before I even begin. I'm going to sub each page by letter, linking directly to the "List of planets" page. Each page within will be formatted in the same way - merely the table of that letter, categorised as a List. I intend to do this in one week's time, giving sufficient time for anyone to make their objections should they so desire.

Any problems as to whether I shouldn't do this, say below or just send a message. Darth Xadún(Consult the Holocron) 21:51, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Conjecture

I've just noticed we don't have an article for unidentified planets. There should be one. Could just be called "List of Planets Conjecture". Commander Code-8 To say hi, press 42 02:28, November 3, 2012 (UTC)
