Is a life debt really an award? Shouldn't it be somehow included with IU cultures? Shadowtrooper talk 12:58, 21 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Chewbacca's life debt extended to Leia) ? Han and Leia was not married in ESB? so how could the life debt be extended, Han ASKED Chewie to protect Liea, Did Chewie have to say yes? If the carbon-freezing killed Han was Chewie free from his life debt? I would say yes, but Chewie would still have looked after Liea because of his nature and loyalty to his friends not because of a debt. His life debt started with Liea after the book The Courtship of Princess Leia

  • From the Star Wars Trilogy Sourcebook, Special Edition entry on Chewie: "Solo called out ... 'The Princess — you have to take care of her.' It was then that Chewbacca realized there was more to his honor family than Han Solo." Based on that passage, what I wrote about the extension of the life debt was correct...from a certain point of view. 8) — Silly Dan 13:47, 11 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I see your point but, for Chewie maybe instead of Life Debt it should just be called Loyalty, after all the times he saved Han, Luke, Liea, Yoda in RotS, and not ripping the arms of the Droids for the chess game I think he payed his Debt back 100 times, if I was him I'd be mad at the fact that Han and Luke won an award in ANH and got zip from Liea not even a kiss:-(, By the way "From a certain point of view?" I could be related to Jabba the Hutt, I'm not but having Liea as a slave girl might be fun...... "From a certain point of view" :-)--sithlord123 22:51, 19 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Behind the scenes

It would be useful to add a "Behind the Scenes" section that chronicles the evolution of the Life Debt concept between Han and Chewie. For example: In early Star Wars novels such as Brian Daley's Han Solo at Stars' End (1979), Chewie's life debt to Han is not even mentioned. It doesn't exist. It would be interesting to know what was the first Star Wars novel to formally explain Chewie's life debt to Han and how that concept evolved over time. --  Kanos  03:15, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
