Mandalorian Protectors
So Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition does confirm Journeyman Protector as the same organization in Star Wars Rebels in the Fenn Rau, Gar Saxon and Imperial Super Commandos entry, so I think this can be merged back into the Mandalorian Protectors. I am just not sure what the appropriate Legends equivalent to have on the page is, since we can only have one. Toqgers (talk) 10:34, November 21, 2019 (UTC)
i think the key here is to move the royal guard legends article into its own space, and have the journeyman protectors and the new modern version be the canon/legends dual article. Clain4671 (talk) 05:57, December 8, 2019 (UTC)
- The Mandalorian royal guards are confirmed to be the same as the Journeyman Protectors, so that would not work--Vitus InfinitusTalk 06:18, December 8, 2019 (UTC)
- Any update on this? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep this article as a sub-division of the overall protectors organization? Editoronthewiki (talk) 12:35, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
Journeyman Protectors = New Mandalorian Royal Guard?
I'll be sincere, I do not believe myself to be the most adequate person to address this, since it's been quite a while since I've edited at Wookieepedia, and I'll be gladly proven wrong: Are we certain the Mandalorian Journeyman Protectors are the same as the New Mandalorian Royal Guard? Fenn Rau's Protectors do consider the Death Watch "traitors", and they do serve the leader of Mandalore, but does that equate them belonging to the New Mandalorians? As shown in the Kanan comics, they were already wearing traditional Mandalorian armor and adhering to traditional warrior honor when this was considered a rejection of the New Mandalorians' pacifist ideals, and something associated with the Death Watch. And by serving the "leader of Mandalore", couldn't this refer either to Mand'alor Pre Vizsla or Duchess Satine Kryze? I believe this is reinforced by the Star Wars Databank having the Protectors and the Mandalorian Guard as separate groups, with Satine's "royal guards" listed as a subgroup within the Mandalorian Guard. And you could argue some redundant guidebook to state these are the same group who protected Satine, but that contradicts what is shown on-screen (the Protectors and the Royal Guard wear different armor around the same periods of time, the latter explicitly adhere to Satine's stance of neutrality, the former were explicitly stated to have trained clone troopers). I believe this confusion has arisen from when the Mandalorian Protectors and Journeyman Protectors were rightfully merged into one article, but mixing the Mandalorian Royal Guard in into the mix is not sustained by the most important sources of canon next to films, the TV series and the Databank. As it seems, based on all we can deduce from canon, the Protectors are just another group of Mandalorian warriors contemporary to the Death Watch who however were uninterested in waging war on the New Mandalorians, and were on bad terms with Pre Vizsla's group. My personal recommendations, as misguided as it may be, is to make an article on the Mandalorian Royal Guard and like the Databank, list them as a sub-division of the New Mandalorian Guard (and link it to the respective Legends article which already exists), and in turn link the canon Protectors article to the Legends Journeyman Protector and Mandalorian Protector articles. Again, I'm just a fan trying to help, if I'm wrong the article should gladly stay as it is now. —Unsigned comment by 185.174.80.45 (talk • contribs)
