Game Mechanics?
Does anyone else find the idea of Jedi "snipers" who only fight by throwing their lightsabers, as opposed to "brutes" (and I thought the Jedi regarded the lightsaber as an elegant weapon) who close in for melee combat silly enough to be regarded as game mechanics? That's if the game even uses these terms, which I would like someone to verify. JimRaynor55 01:58, 28 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I don't recall the terms "Jedi sniper" or "Jedi brute" ever being used in the RotS game. Pair that with the fact that it was made by an anon (not to mention it was his only edit), and I'd say it's fanon. --MarcK [talk] 02:14, 28 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Look at the RotS page at lucasarts. Jedi snipers and Jedi brutes are in the game. However, I can agree that they can be regarded as game mechanics and not canon if they truly throw their lightsabers even when the enemy is in close quarters and they would have a better tactical advantage by not throwing. --Mr. Perfection 03:05, 28 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I think their existence is canon, but they probably don't need their own articles. Just merge them in as specializations within the Jedi Order. --SparqMan 06:29, 28 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- seriously though if you readd it at the game homepage it says they "could" throw there light sabers with devastating percision I think they do need there own article because they are second only to brutes as master guards of the temple. --anono

- Game mechanics are things that can only be depicted through gameplay and would have no way of happening in the real universe. Just because something seems silly or off does not automatically make it a "game mechanic", just as something ridiculous in a novel is not necessarily a "literary mechanic" (though I would consider the end of ROTS, with the Death Star already under construction, a literary mechanic). If Jedi Sniper and Jedi Brute don't need their own pages, then neither do other subgroups of the Jedi Order, including Jedi Guardian or even Bergruutfa Clan. -BaronGrackle 01:54, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- There are IU references to, say, Guardians, but I'll be a Sithspawn if the same can be said for these things. Evir Daal 11:01, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

- Chee says it's a gameplay term. -- I need a name (Complain here) 01:58, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- If a user of wookiepedia is going to do a search for an article we should try and have a least a basic article or a redirect to direct them to information that is valid, weather or not the term is a "game mechanic." After all tons of the technology articles from Knights of the Old Republic are purely game mechanics that change appearance or stats. Xzylongann 03:23, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, what source uses Jedi Assassin? That name needs to be sourced. Xzylongann 03:33, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Although Jedi Sniper is a gameplay term, it is the only sourced name that we know of. So I'm moving the page back to "Jedi Sniper." Cyfiero 22:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
