Made of Wood ?

It wasn't actually made of wood, was it? What would they do if the shields gave out? -- SFH 06:37, 17 Jan 2006 (UTC)

  • I imagine it was not normal wood, even if it was. Probably specially-treated/coated. QuentinGeorge 06:45, 17 Jan 2006 (UTC)
    • page 26, NEC, says "wooden-hulled"
Don't kill the messenger;) - JustinGann 07:09, 17 Jan 2006 (UTC)
  • I know it says that in the NEC, but I doubt its plain wood. QuentinGeorge 08:28, 17 Jan 2006 (UTC)
    • Quentin: agreed, I was just answering SFH there; maybe it was wood, but covered in transparisteel? or maybe it was from Zonama Sekot;) JustinGann 09:00, 17 Jan 2006 (UTC)
  • I don't know but it would have to be reinforced. I would love to see that thing reentering a planets atmosphere! Darth Metus 00:01, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Personally, I think it's just crap. The only thing that can break the laws of physics is the Force, and the simple idea of a wooden spaceship is just too f***in' ridiculous to even consider. Too bad nobody told Dark Horse. You know, it's such a shame that the 25,000-1,000 BBY period is being so mangled by so many different viewpoints and so much conflicting canon. And the Sith Empire retconn? Utter, complete, bull. Someone should do something.Ga'raxa 05:13, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
    • There's nothing inherently physics-defying about a wooden hull. Who's to say that there is *no wood* in a galaxy of countless planets able to withstand the stresses of spaceflight, perhaps as well or better than metal? We on Earth are already looking to carbon composites instead of metals for many advanced tech applications like spaceships. jSarek 05:29, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
      • Yea, the wood could be treated with nanotubes for all we know. :) -- Riffsyphon1024 05:58, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
      • Wood is actually a superior shipbuilding material in some ways. When steel will melt from high temperatures, wood will retain its strength.--SOLDIERofficer81 05:48, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
        • Fascinating! In addition, per jSarek's comments about the possibility of superstrong extraterrestrial wood, the Episode III Visual Dictionary cites the ability of Wookiee engineers to affect hyperdrive repairs with wood. Admittedly, that's for internal machinery, not hull plating; still, one can only imagine the strength of wroshyr wood.Grand Admiral Sean8 03:05, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
        • Complete trash, obviously another "whimsickle" idea that's meant to pitch towards kids. This pile was meant to be capable of planetary landing... You're actually telling me that they think a ship clad in a combustable material would survive atmospheric re-entry? Not to mention hits from directed energy weapons. TBH, Star Wars now has a much more adult fan-base and they need to start writing things that are more complex and believable or the franchise will rot away.

Who thinks that even looks like wood.

The writer of NEC is obviously mistaken. From the drawings of the ship in Jedi vs. Sith, there is no indication of this being a wooden ship. There are no veins or knot holes to indicate this ship is made of wooden planks. As you can see from the picture in the article, the ship has both brass colored sections and silver/grey colored sections. The brass sections are the same color as Farfallas armor. To me, this clearly indicates a metalic ship (although I don't deny the possiblity of wood capable of withstanding vacuum in the starwars univers--It worked for Serenity(Firefly)).

If this ship wasn't shaped like a boat, the question would have never come up based on the individual lines and colors. It is only because it looks like a fairytale boat that the NEC writer would even consider this. This will all be corrected as soon as someone official decides to give the ship a name.

I have to admit that the design for Farfalla and his ship is the stupidest thing I have seen come out of Dark Horse Star Wars, and just about ruined the whole series for me....Although, if I had the bottom half of a horse's body, I might be tempted to put the top half of a horse's body on my ship, because that is funny!

I have also noticed that Drew Karpyshyn, Who wrote Darth Bane: Path of destruction, who loves to write unending descriptions of sabaac rules, Sith temple design, holocron engravings, and the like, described Farfalla's top half in detail, but made no mention of his equine legs or species. Nor did he Mention one word about the ships discription except that it had Farfalla's insignia on the bottom. I think he tried to make the best out of a ridiculous situation. He stayed loyal to source material, but left out allthe stupid parts.

It doesn't look like it was made out of wooden planks but more like carved out of one giant peice of wood. FinalWish 02:05, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
