I read on Wikipedia that Cortosis made it's way into the Movie Trilogy. I'm assuming that's in Revenge of the Sith, but could we get a source on that? -- SFH 16:12, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Wasn't it used in the Magnaguard's weapons? -- Riffsyphon1024 01:42, 19 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- According to our own article, it was Phrik. -- SFH 01:52, 19 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- It comes from the Revenge of the Sith visual dictionary. --AdmThrawn 01:57, 14 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- Cortosis is used in Papatien's lightsaber hilt. it is the main body of the weapon and not the gold like electrum.--Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin 20:12, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Cortosis-weave
I've created a small article to cover this aspect in more detail, adding a link in the "See Also" section. Improvements are, of course, always welcome.--Goodwood 00:28, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Appearances in Legacy
Wouldn't it be more accurate to list simply all appearances of the Imperial Knights, since the cortosis gauntlet is a part of their armor? Vryce 04:56, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Brittle?
I'm currently reading Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, and it describes Cortosis as one of the hardess materials in the Galaxy, so is it brittle or extremely hard? Grand Admiral Eddie 04:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Grand Admiral Eddie
I've just finished Darth Bane: Path of Destruction too and I was thinking the same. I have a feeling it is a conflicting canon source. Drew Karpyshyn seems to be on a role on that sort of stuff. Cm56327 15:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Cm56327
So what does everyone think we should do? I hate it when stuff doesn't fit together as it should... Grand Admiral Eddie 16:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Grand Admiral Eddie
I personally think it is brittle because in Timothy Zahn's book Vision of the Future (writen in 1998) he says it's extremely brittle. Because Zahn's book was written first, (8 years before in fact) I think cortosis is brittle not extremely hard.Cm56327 02:58, 8 August 2007 (UTC) Cm56327
Alright, sounds good to me, thought I'd bring it up just to be sure. I don't think I've read Vision on the Future yet... Grand Admiral Eddie 19:51, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Grand Admiral Eddie
I always thought that two raw types of cortosis existed the all around durable and lightsaber resistant version mined by Bane and the brittle lightsaber deactivating version from VisionSargeLIVES 22:27, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
You guys know that wikipedia:Diamonds are the hardest things on earth and are very brittle at the same time. What is strange to me is that it reads cortosis is a brittle, fibrous material fibrous and brittle are complete contradictions if something is fibrous it will stretch or bend, if it is brittle it will snap or crack. Explain this to me, or I'll change the article if you can't.Aryeonos 02:02, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
it does say in the article that it needed to be refined, so could the hard stuff not be the ore and the brittle stuff be the pure refined version? 86.175.248.212 07:40, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
Vision of the Future
The article states that Mara explains to Luke what cortosis is in Vision of the Future; however, in fact, Luke explains to Mara that it stops lightsabers, while she explains the other properties of the material.
Darth Sidious
I saw on Wikipedia that Darth Sidious' Lightsaber was covered with Cortosis. Worth a mention perhaps? --TVoid 10:30, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
On second inspection, Darth Sidious' Lightsaber was covered by Phrik. My bad. --TVoid 20:54, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
slight "contradiction"-needs clarification
"...conductive properties caused lightsabers to temporarily short out upon contact...... though with repeated strikes, a lightsaber could still cut through it."
I know what this is supposed to mean, but I don't know how to re-word it. help anyone? Dr.Kermit(Babble here) 05:08, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
maybe try, "while cortosis can deactivate a lightsaber for a while, the lightsaber can eventually cut through it" 86.175.248.212 07:42, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
Total Cortosis Body Armor
Could someone make cortosis body armor. Think about it, you take the imperial knight's cortosis gauntlet, smelt it into one complete body of armor. Wouldn't you be unstopable... or would it too heavy to walk around in?--Trask1138 03:01, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
If you could electroplate cortosis you could easily cover an entire metalic or conductive plastic with it. Though I don't know anything about cortosiss' ferro magnetic properties.
Mining
Most 'less important' (if you will) ores/alloys/metals on wookieepedia have listed known/possible locations as to where they can be mined/obtained. I believe that, while this metal (?) is more significant than most of those others, it should still somewhere have this list as well. Xanofar 07:35, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Cortosis Shot
Cad Bane used a cortosis shot on Bolla Ropal's lightsaber in the Clone Wars webcomic series. Should that be added in? It's just going to be one line though. But I think it at least warrants a line under "Appearances"? Here's the link to the comic page (season 2 page 16).--Secretss 16:06, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Contradiction of shortages?
Um, hi. New editor here. I was just wanting to clarify a few discrepancies I've noted in this article. Primarily where it states multiple times that cortosis shorted out a lightsaber for a few seconds, where in Star Wars: Purge, Shadday Potkin specifically says upon striking vader with a cortosis blade that it will be for a few minutes. The same with Roan Fel, to Darth Kruhl in Star Wars: Legacy 13: Ready to Die, where he states that a cortosis gauntlet can short out a lightsaber blade for a minutes as well. Opinions and thoughts? Dorian G 16:33, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
I've read many, many books and graphic novels, and it seems like unrefined cortosis shorts out the lightsaber, where the alloy just blocks it. That may not be true, though. Caeserguy 20:02, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
