A couple of questions

I've unified all the cloakers and masquers, except the cloak of the Nuun, on this one page; but there are a couple of questions that need cleared up.

  • The old oozhith page claimed that Master Shapers wore white cloakers while. In Edge of Victory I: Conquest, I can see Mezhan Kwaad's cloaker being described with its refractive cilia active, while the one Nen Yim puts on is said to be "darkened", but this isn't quite the same thing—the situation could be to do with the scenarios, rather than their ranks: is there anything more specific than this?
  • The gablith masquer page said that gablith masquers opened at the neck, not the nose. Is this true of both Duros and Givin types, or just one or the other?
  • The ooglith masquer page said a modified version could be used as spacesuits; I'd have thought this was more likely true of the ooglith cloaker, which serves as a pretty functional underwater pressure suit. Anyone got the source for this—at a guess, it'll be The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology...?
  • Similarly, ooglith masquer mentioned them spraying pus when cut: the source would be appreciated, again, to see how widely the text warrants applying this to the various types...
  • A creature called an unmasker is apparently mentioned in Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial; presumably this is to detect Yuuzhan Vong disguised as other Yuuzhan Vong: does anyone have the quote for this?
    • "From a sturdy carry case the lanky man set at his feet, he extracted - by the scruff of its bristly neck - a nasty-tempered, sharp-toothed creature that looked like the offspring of a ng'ok and a quillarat. Han heard Elan's sharp intake of breath and saw her eyes widen as the creature's handler let the thing get a whiff of her. All at once a layer of skin seemed to peel back from Elan's nose, cheeks, and neck and withdraw into the collar of the blouse Droma had found for her" A few lines down Reck calls it an 'unmasker' so that's a basic description rather than a Yuuzhan Vong term. • Awesome! Thank you! -McEwok 12:21, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Proposed move

To Ooglith masquer, which seems more precise. Enochf 13:14, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

The page describes a variety of Yuuzhan Vong biots, collectively called Cloakers. An Ooglith Masquer is a specific form. I propose to keep the title as it is. Vongchild 11:50, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Is there an image available for this? --LtNOWIS 08:43, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Since the picture has been deleted, can anyone take another shot at it and take a picture from the Dark Horse Invasion preview of the Yuuzhan Vong infiltrator shedding his disguise on the last page? Darth Batrus 08:56, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Proposed split

Currently this page covers several distinct topics at once. Cloakers and masquers are separate concepts that can both be made using an ooglith, but not all cloakers and masquers use oogliths. This venn diagram illustrates how the various cloakers, masquers, and oogliths intersect. This is based on reviewing the information in Star Wars: The New Jedi Order books, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, and The New Jedi Order Sourcebook. CSWE has entries for gablith masquer, cloak of Nuun, oozhith, vacuum ooglith, and ooglith. The ooglith entry states "There were two prominent forms: the ooglith masquer and ooglith cloaker," then has a paragraph on each. NJO Sourcebook calls the ooglith masquer "related to the ooglith masquer." Balance Point describes Nom Anor's new gablith masquer as "not an ooglith, but a newly bred type." I haven't found a source (yet?) that describes an oozhith as a cloaker or masquer, though the concept is similar. Viull Gorsat makes a point of stressing that his neoglith masquer is not an ooglith masquer in X-Wing: Mercy Kill. And so on.

This pages needs to be split into masquer, ooglith, ooglith cloaker, ooglith masquer, gablith masquer, neoglith masquer, oozhith, vacuum cloaker, and cloaker revamped to focus only on that topic. Toqgers (talk) 04:05, September 7, 2020 (UTC)
