A surveillance detector[2] or a surveillance scanner was a type of close-range handheld sensor used to located surveillance systems. They could located comms signals, electromagnetic fields, power fluctuations, listening bugs, hidden observers, and electronic surveillance. Some advanced scanners could also detect surveillance systems through thermal imaging, ultrasound, ultraviolet, motion, and some could even detect individuals who were in the process of using or planting surveillance system. Surveillance scanners cost 750 credits on the market.[1]
Behind the scenes
Surveillance scanners were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Cyphers and Masks,[1] a 2018 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[3] They originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in Galladinium's Fantastic Technology, a 1995 roleplaying supplement published by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[4]
