"Probes sent from Coruscant have given the crew—in particular, Geode, I suppose—enough information to stitch together a makeshift route home for us, which involves several patchwork jumps merged by the navicomputer. Normally there are no intermediate jumps, so this feels like hitting bumps in the road."
"In other words, it's safe, but not comfortable."
"Exactly. It almost makes me wish I'd paid more attention in supraliminal topography class, back in the day."
―Cohmac Vitus and Orla Jareni[1]

Supraliminal topography was an academic subject taught by the time of the High Republic Era. At some point, Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus took a class on the subject, though he did not pay much attention during it. Some time later,[1] in 232 BBY,[2] Vitus and the Jedi Wayseeker Orla Jareni discussed their options for traveling back to the Core Worlds planet Coruscant in the wake of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, with the former noting that probes sent from Coruscant should have enough information to make patchwork hyperspace jumps to their destination. When Jareni alluded that the journey would be safe, but not comfortable, Vitus agreed and noted that he wished he had been more attentive in his supraliminal topography class long before then.[1]

Behind the scenes

Supraliminal topography was mentioned in the 2021 young-adult novel The High Republic: Into the Dark, written by Claudia Gray as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[3]
