- "Mythos is not based on any scene. It's kind of connecting dots in between what could have happened, what might have happened. It's for you to decide how you want to display it and the story you want to tell with your collection."
- ―Matt Bischof
Star Wars Mythos was a formerly cancelled project set to be released by Sideshow Collectibles, taking five characters from the Star Wars universe and focusing on them as legends and epic characters in the form of a statue, a collection of artwork and a non-canon backstory for each[4]. The characters included were Ben Kenobi, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and a Gamorrean named Lomrokk. The project introduced new characters in Bounty #239 and some Trandoshan twins. The series was cancelled before half of the scultpures were released. In 2018, the series was restarted.
Development
Original
The Star Wars Mythos line was first announced by Sideshow Collectibles in early 2012. The Darth Maul figure was announced on April 26 and was fully revealed on May 1.[1] The figure was based on Maul's portrayal in Nameless, a comic appearing in Star Wars Tales 10.[5]
The other sculptures were first publicly showcased at San Diego Comic-Con 2012.[6] Although five figures were slated to be released,[7] only four were released. The Darth Maul figure was released for shipping in January, 2013.[1] The Obi-Wan Kenobi figure was released for shipping in May, 2013.[8] The Boba Fett figure was released sometime between May[9] and July[10] 2013.[9] The Darth Vader figure was released for shipping in October of 2013.[2]
Cancelling
However, Sideshow Collectibles had to stop the line, due to the change in Star Wars canon and franchise direction, following Lucasfilm's acquisition by The Walt Disney Company in late 2012.[11] The Lomrokk figure was never released.
Rebooting
However on July 20, 2018,[12] during the Star Wars Collectibles Panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Sideshow Collectibles revealed that they would be reviving the series because fans loved Sideshow's take on a post–Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan in the Mythos line.[3] This new line was to feature multiple figures including: Obi-Wan, General Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Asajj Ventress, Boba Fett, and Darth Maul.[13]

The Star Wars Mythos line being an example in which we did have to stop the line when canon and direction changed in the Star Wars universe" (backup link archived on May 17, 2021)
