Plot summary

"The Reaping"

When Zayne Carrick, fleeing pursuers, came to the warrior woman Jarael for help, she ventured into the galaxy for the first time in years to help him flee and, more importantly, face up to those tormenting him.

But Jareal was hiding from something too: a past working for the shadowy organization known as the Crucible. No typical slaver band, the Crucible kidnaps innocents of all ages and forces them into constant combat with each other.

Seeing a chance to return the good Jareal did him, Zayne pledges to help her hunt down and destroy the group she fled as a teenager. Without telling his partner Gryph, he concocts a plan to do exactly that...
