- "The spiral attack pattern is new."
- ―The New Republic pilot Skitcher, above Jiruus
The Spiral, as referred to by New Republic pilots, was a maneuver used by TIE fighter pilots of the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing during the Galactic Civil War.[2] In 4 ABY,[1] 204th pilots used the attack pattern when attacking the New Republic EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Hellion's Dare above the planet Jiruus. The Hound Squadron pilot Yeprexi was soon killed by the TIE pilots using the maneuver as well.[2] In 5 ABY,[3] pilots of the fighter wing also used the spiral during a battle at the Core Nine mining megafacility on the planet Troithe, killing the New Republic airspeeder pilot Prinspai in doing so.[4]
Behind the scenes
The spiral first appeared in Alphabet Squadron, the initial novel in Alexander Freed's Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy which was published in 2019.[2]
