A spacefoil.
A spacefoil was a proposed upgrade to be utilized on the Death Star's hull. It would have optimally distributed deflector shield energy, increasing the amount of power that was available for the Death Star's other systems, including its superlaser.
The spacefoil was immense in size, but otherwise bore a resemblance to the aerodynamic spoilers used on wheeled ground vehicles.
