An early skirmish of the Galactic Civil War occurred over Tatooine[3] in 1 BBY[4] between two T-65 X-wing starfighter pilots of the Rebel Alliance's Red Squadron and three pairs of Imperial TIE/LN starfighter pilots of Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Squadrons.[3]

The engagement was later simulated as a training mission by the Rebel Alliance, intended to teach prospective pilots to work as a team with their wingmates.[3] Agamarian Rebel Keyan Farlander was assigned to the simulation by training officer Wex Dafid prior to Farlander's recruitment into the Alliance flagship Independence's Red Squadron.[5]

Behind the scenes

The battle first appeared in the 1993 video game Star Wars: X-Wing as the second X-wing historical mission, "Wingmen are important."[3]
