A skateboard was a single-being wheeled vehicle.
It was light enough to be carried by a young Human, and could be used to perform acrobatic maneuvers.
Yoda once confiscated a skateboard from a Jedi named Skywalker, and subsequently used the vehicle himself. He apparently found the experience quite enjoyable.
Behind the scenes
In an interview discussing Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, Disney Chairman Allan Horn joked, "I've learned to be very careful about Star Wars. If I say, 'There will be no skateboards in Star Wars'... that gets headlines."[2]
