A short sword was a simple and ancient type of melee weapon,[2] largely overlooked by contemporary warriors, but still effective in the hands of a skilled wielder.[1] The sword could be used to parry incoming melee attacks, and was often used while wielding another weapon,[2] as the former did not unbalance the user when held in the off-hand.[1]
In 3956 BBY,[3] during the Jedi Civil War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, the weapon was used by both factions, although vibroblades and vibroswords were more common. Short swords were wielded by some Sith troopers who attacked and boarded the Republic Hammerhead-class cruiser Endar Spire above the Outer Rim planet of Taris. On the ecumenopolis itself, short swords were used by some members of the Black Vulkars swoop gang.[1]
Short swords were used as melee weapons by Krath war droids.[2]
