- "Within days of Rei'izu's subjugation, the Sith fractured. [...] Who can say why? [...] Perhaps they sullied what they shouldn't have—all manner of artifacts were kept in Rei'izu's esteemed temples, some well known to be spiteful when ill used. The storied kyber mirror of Shinsui Temple, for example."
- ―The Traveler
Shinsui Temple was a temple located on a mountainside on the planet Rei'izu. The temple complex was separated from the pilgrims' ward of Yojou by a chasm, which required crossing a series of bridges and seven shrines. Its courtyard had a large pine tree. Many stone steps led up to the temple itself; its final stairs, the main hall's wide veranda and pillars, and the inner chamber's varnished floorboards were all wooden. The main hall was elevated on stilts to better overlook the chasm. Entered through painted doors, its inner chamber housed the kyber mirror of Shinsui Temple on a dais. The chamber had candles that lighted as they were passed and patterned metal lanterns on chains hanging from the rafters.[1]
At the end of the Sith rebellion, Shinsui Temple disappeared along with the planet. Rei'izu was restored after twenty years and one week.[1]
Behind the scenes
The temple's name was taken from Kiyomizu-dera (pictured), in Kyoto
Shinsui Temple appeared in the 2021 non-canon novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, by Emma Mieko Candon.[1] According to the author, to create names for the novel, she put together relevant kanji and used various readings. Candon's mother recognized "Shinsui" as one way the characters for 清水 (of Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera temple) could be read.[2]
