Shellflowers were a species of flower. They had soft centers full of sticky syrup. Primitive beings would use their forefingers to extract the syrup. Over time, the shellflower evolved thorns as a means of defense to ward off the primitive beings, forcing them to invent rudimentary tools for syrup extraction.[1]
