- "You may be too obtuse to realize it, Erso, but I'm doing you a favor. This project needed to be done weeks ago."
- ―Shaith Vodran, in correspondence with Galen Erso
Shaith Vodran was an individual who worked on the Death Star project, with the title of Engineering Operations Manager.
Approximately eighteen months prior to Operation Fracture, Vodran exchanged a number of engineering notes with Galen Walton Erso regarding proposed adjustments to the Death Star's reactor. The dialogue was prompted after Vodran ran the changes through a droid algorithm to test their efficacy. The resultant Systems Safety and Compatibility Report contained a number of subsystem warnings and a red flag on the hypermatter annihilator unit. Vodran sent a message to Erso, refusing to implement the changes and asking why they were necessary in the first place, given how close to completion the project was. Unbeknownst to Vodran, Erso's additions were designed to give the Death Star a weakness that could be exploited by the Rebel Alliance.[1]
