Sewing assistant droids were a type of droid with many arms, each specially designed for mending and sewing garments.[2] The droids had a circular base and a tubular body covered in orange, black, and white plating where its arms were attached. Atop the body sat a domed head with a single black sensor.[1]
In around 34 ABY,[3] during the First Order occupation of the planet Batuu,[1] the sewing assistant droid GX-8 was employed in Black Spire Outfitters in Black Spire Outpost on the Batuu. It aided the store's owner, Arta Kleidun, in keeping up with demand[2] by mending clothing and completing other minor sewing tasks.[4]
Behind the scenes
A sewing assistant droid first appeared as a prop within the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge,[1] which opened to guests at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.[5] Its look was inspired by a medical droid.[4]
