"Some of us are meant to toil anonymously, furthering the cause. Some of us are spies. Some of us are dancers. And some are princesses. But we all want the same thing. I could see it in her eyes. She would die before she gave me up to the Imperials."
―Sarin's thoughts on Leia Organa[1]

Sarin was a Lethan Twi'lek female who served the Alliance to Restore the Republic as an undercover agent during the Galactic Civil War.

Agent uncovered

"Paranoid? Sure. In my line of work, you're either paranoid — or you're dead."
―Sarin's thoughts[1]

Sarin worked undercover as a dancer on Feddasyr.

Sarin was a Twi'lek female who, alongside their sister, was a member of the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. The Twi'lek operated as an undercover agent for five years[1] prior to the time frame of 0 ABY to 3 ABY[2] on Feddasyr, a pleasure planet that was the site of a covert war between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance. Because of their red skin, a sought-after trait that was the product of being born a one-in-a-million Lethan Twi'lek, Sarin had access to the highest-ranking Imperial officers.[1] One day during that time frame, they had to deliver an Imperial top-level security code to a rebel agent who, unbeknownst to them, was Princess Leia Organa. By that time, Sarin had started to suspect their role was uncovered, noticing suspected agents watching them.[1]

On that day, Sarin was working as a dancer in a Feddasyr establishment in a settlement on the planet. When they left the place, the Twi'lek was tailed by an Imperial officer. Sarin walked through an alleyway before hiding in a building and closing the door behind them. The Rebel spy changed their clothes just before the officer opened the door, though Sarin was able to kill the Imperial with a blaster shot to the chest. They then escaped the scene, running through the Feddasyr settlement, hopping on boats going through canals of water, and kissing an Imperial officer, before ending up at the Cantina to meet Organa.[1]

At the cantina, Sarin noticed an enemy Cerean agent who was on to them but still went up to their contact. They told Organa that they were not able to get the code, and that their cover was blown. Sarin continued that they hoped the Alliance would send someone to help them with the Cerean before Organa revealed herself and told them to relax and trust her. Sarin was disappointed that the Alliance sent Organa, who the Twi'lek saw as not as cold-blooded or experienced as them. The two then walked out of the cantina, while the Cerean started to die from an untraceable poison placed in his drink by the Alliance-payed bartender.[1]

Tardee party

"Funny how I operate here for five years and the day you show up, my cover is blown."
"Yes. Unfortunate timing."
―Sarin and Leia Organa[1]

That night, Leia infiltrated Jock Tardee's party under the alias of Nahob Skuts. While trying to find the imperial codes taken by Jock Tardee, an imperial Trandoshan agent, sent for the codes as well, realized that Nahob Skuts was Leia Organa. However, before the Trandoshan could blow the princess's cover, he was killed by Sarin, using the sniper rifle left by Leia on the penthouse's balcony. After retrieving a stormtrooper defector, which had the imperial codes encoded in his DNA, Leia managed to escape the party and meet with Sarin, handing over the stormtrooper in her care before being captured by an imperial patrol. Sarin managed to evade the patrol and meet with their sister. They told their sister that the stormtrooper was "of critical importance to the cause" and had to be taken to the next rebel contact on a backwater planet.

Equipment

"The weapon she supplied is equipped with long-range surveillance gear. I'll be able to hear and see everything. And send a shot her way if she needs the help."
―Sarin's thoughts on the sniper rifle Leia Organa supplied her[1]

While working as a dancer, Sarin wore a white top, white shorts, an armband, a brown headband, and a gold necklace. While leaving the place they danced at, they put on a blue coat and blue heels. Sarin eventually changed into a black shirt, a gray jacket, black pants, and black boots that night. The Rebel spy used an E-11 blaster rifle to defend themself against an Imperial officer and later used a sniper rifle with long range surveillance gear to guard Leia Organa at Jock Tardee's party.[1]

Behind the scenes

"It would be cool to have four core characters, and each issue would play with that idea — Princess Leia and a spy character who she teams up with, but it's all from the point of view of the character Princess Leia teams up with."
―Mark Kindt mentions Sarin in an interview with CBR[3]

Sarin was created for Star Wars: Rebel Heist, a comic miniseries written by Matt Kindt. The character was indirectly mentioned in 2013 by Kindt in an exclusive interview with CBR,[3] before the characters first appearance in the second issue of Rebel Heist. The issue was illustrated by Marco Castiello[1] and published by Dark Horse Comics on May 28, 2014.[4]
