- "I have nothing but respect for the entire Single-Purpose series, Master Luke. Truly the core of droid operations. But they are so limited."
- ―C-3PO
SP Eighty cleaner droids, also called SP-80 cleaners, were a model of droids from the Single-Purpose series that were programmed with the single purpose of cleaning. When presented with something they considered a mess, they would attempt to clean it even if their limitations rendered them unable to do so. Though limited, the protocol droid C-3PO considered SP-80s and others of their series the core of droid operations.
SP-80 cleaners were blocky droids with bronze colored plating, short legs, a single cleaner arm and a vacuum absorption pad, and a rotating upper body that was roughly cube-shaped and equipped with sensor squares that glowed blue when active. They were capable of identifying dirt and clutter visually, but also had a powerful ability to detect odors—said to be sensitive enough to scent a light stain measuring a mere fraction of a square centimeter at a range of over one hundred meters. A flip-open coverplate in the side concealed a comm cable input that allowed them to be easily reprogrammed.[1]
SP-80 cleaners were among the wide variety of droid models stationed aboard the Eye of Palpatine when Luke Skywalker and C-3PO investigated the massive Dreadnaught[1] in 12 ABY.[2]
