- "Give them their riots, or push them all into the Free Ryloth movement. In time, we'll tame them and they'll welcome their bondage. Many already do."
- ―Belkor Dray, to Delian Mors
During the Imperial Era, nighttime riots occurred on the planet Ryloth, spurred by the heat of the summer months. The riots resulted in Twi'leks resisting Imperial control, forming crowds in the streets and cantinas of Lessu City, with unrest ensuing.[1] By 14 BBY,[2] Colonel Belkor Dray's policy, administered in Moff Delian Mors' name, was to contain the riots and do their best to minimize fatalities and property damage. Publicly, Dray expressed his wish not to crush the riots because he regarded them as a useful venting mechanism to dissuade the population from supporting the anti-Imperial Free Ryloth Movement. In secret, the colonel was a spy for Cham Syndulla, the leader of the Free Ryloth movement. Later, while traveling to meet with Syndulla, Dray reflected on the riots and why they occurred in summers.[1]
Behind the scenes
The riots were mentioned in Lords of the Sith, a 2015 novel written by Paul S. Kemp.[1]
