Riome

Riome was a little, frigid world located in the Dorvalla system of the Outer Rim Territories. The Toom clan set up a hideout here after sabotaging Lommite Limited and InterGalactic Ore's freighters in 33 BBY, but Darth Maul was able to anonymously lead Patch Bruit and other LL workers to Riome, where they gunned down each and every Toom member on the planet. Eventually, Darth Maul was waiting in the shadows, and himself took down the remaining combatants.

Description

A small world deeper in the Dorvalla system,^[3] of the Outer Rim Territories.^[1] There was no sign of orbital traffic, and nearby lay an asteroid field coreward of the planet. Riome loomed deathly white in the surrounding blackness of space. The planet had a thin atmosphere, its azure sky extending above the extremely cold landscape. Ice-covered terrain stretched over rolling foothills and bordered the edges of turbulent gray seas studded with islands of craggy ice.^[3] From this world came a species of ribbon-like aquatic beings known as the sea-snake.^[6][4]

The warmest spot in this world was an area of active volcanism, with immense glaciers pocked with ice-blue light, and patches of coarse grassland, through which bubbled dark pools of magma-heated water.^[3]

History

Early on Riome, a series of interlinked semicylindrical bunkers was founded to shelter a team of scientists. Over the long intervening years, the scientists' abandoned droids and equipment had turned into outlandish ice sculptures. Later, during the second half of the final century of the Republic, the Toom clan, a cutthroat organization, established a hideout for themselves in an area of active volcanism. However, the main base of the organization had been founded on the planet Dorvalla in the same star system.^[3]

In 33 BBY, before the Battle of Naboo, acting on information received from the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Maul, the Toom clan betrayed its employers – two rival mining companies, Lommite Limited and InterGalactic Ore – and sabotaged the ships of both companies. Expecting retribution from their former employers, the Toom clan abandoned its original base on Dorvalla and fled to their secret base on Riome, convinced that even the combined security forces of the corporations would not be a match for them. The lead bunker had been fortified with blast doors, and the coarse grass apron that fronted it was impregnated with fragmentation mines and other traps.^[3]

Darth Maul, having manipulated the events, planted evidence at the site of the clan's former base, which helped the corporations discover the whereabouts of the Riome sanctuary. When that happened, Darth Maul arrived in Riome his own craft ahead of a mixed squad of corporations and assumed the role of observer. Clothed in cold-weather gear and helmets fitted with tinted face bowls, the arrived force of twenty emerged from the shuttle aboard a troop carrier equipped with both repulsorlift engines and weighty tracks for surface-effect locomotion. The Toom clan rallied a quick defense, loosing blaster bolts from retrofitted firing holes and a self-contained laser cannon emplacement. Laser bolts clipped the carrier's repulsorlifts and sent it coiling deeply into the snow. The forces of the mining companies fanned out and began a methodical advance on the bunkers, finding shelter behind boulders that had been carried down the mountainsides by glaciers. The ongoing slaughter between the miners and the mercenaries was leading to the two sides wiping each other out. During the fierce battle, the Toom clan was effectively exterminated, and the intervening Darth Maul left no survivors among the attackers.^[3]
