Ringers was a precision sport in which individual players, called tossers, competed to throw metallic disks through a series of rings.
Ringers was played in an arena in which were suspended many moving metallic rings. The rings varied in size, shape, and movement pattern;[1] some moved in irregular arcs, others in a spiraling orbit.[2] Standing on a line, the tossers took turns trying to throw the disks through multiple rings, called "making a ringer." To limit opportunities for cheating, all tossers shared the same equipment. Making a ringer required great skill and patience, and a skilled competitor knew how to wait for the rings to align for an advantageous shot. This made for a slow-paced game that Imperial investigator Zeck Tambell compared to "watching duracrete dry." The excitement of watching ringers largely came from gambling on the tournaments.[2] The sport was popular on the planet Stassia during the era of the Galactic Empire.[1]
