Research temples were a type of Jedi temple used by the Jedi Order for research purposes. The Batuu Jedi temple was one such temple.[1]
Research temples were equipped with Artifact Containment Rooms, used to investigate objects with unknown origins or powers. Sometime before 232 BBY,[2] Jedi Master Sylwin and her Padawan Ady Sun'Zee brought an Ancient Sith Runestone to the Batuu temple to be studied. To accommodate this, Sylwin requested that Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus make the Artifact Containment Room floor scalable. Vitus thought the idea smart and suggested that similar modifications be made to the Containment Rooms of all the research temples.
