In 1 BBY, during the months leading up to the Battle of Yavin, the Alliance to Restore the Republic mounted a rescue mission to recover several Rebel pilots who had escaped from the Corporate Sector Authority's infamous Stars' End prison on Mytus VII aboard the BFF-1 bulk freighter Genue.[2]
The prisoners' escape was quickly discovered and a Delta-class DX-9 stormtrooper transport sent to board and search ships near Kashyyyk in an effort to recapture the prisoners.[2]
The Rebel Alliance also learned of the escape and dispatched Captain Keyan Farlander with Lieutenant Cardacs, a friend of Raider, in R-22 Spearheads to lead a rescue mission. Farlander destroyed the Imperial transport just before it boarded the Genue and the Rebel Lambda-class T-4a shuttle Drago soon came and boarded the freighter in order to lead it to hyperspace, while the two R-22s repelled TIE fighter assaults from the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Intrepid. Cardacs was killed while protecting the boarding operation.[2]
The escapees then informed the Alliance of Wookiee slaves gathered by the Empire to work for a secret project, with the newly rescued Captain Samuel Raider leading Red Squadron on a rescue mission.[2]
