In 4 ABY, a dogfight took place between the Rebel Alliance's Blue Squadron and the Galactic Empire. During that dogfight, Zander Freemaker flew his modified starfighter Blazemaker Mark II, which had been fitted with several blasters. Zander used his firepower to destroy several TIE fighters and TIE interceptors. However, Zander's ship soon exploded since had overloaded it with too many cannons. Despite the blast, Zander survived the explosion.[4]

Prelude

After stealing and destroying the Kyber Saber, the Freemakers joined the Rebel Alliance. The Freemakers found work servicing the Alliance Fleet's starfighters.[5] After several adventures with the Alliance, Zander Freemaker tried to convince Admiral Ackbar and Lieutenant Valeria to let him fly a starfighter with Blue Squadron. Valeria, who had just returned from a dogfight, declined on the grounds that Zander's starfighter Blazemaker Mark II lacked blasters.[4]

The dogfight

Shortly later, the Galactic Empire launched a counter-attack against the Alliance Fleet. Lieutenant Valeria and her Blue Squadron departed to fight the Imperials. With the encourage of his siblings Kordi and Rowan Freemaker and the B1-series battle droid Roger, Zander fitted his Blazemaker with several laser cannons including a large magma cannon on top of the fuselage. The heavy weight of the cannons slowed down the Blazemaker Mark II but Zander managed to fly the ship out of Home One's hangar.[4]

Zander's arrival was timely since Valeria and her fellow Blue Squadron pilots were being overwhelmed by TIE fighters and TIE interceptors. Zander destroyed a TIE interceptor before it could shoot down Valeria's A-wing. After announcing himself over the com, Zander proceeded to destroy several TIE fighters. Valeria thought the Blazemaker II was messy but effective. Before Zander could use his magma cannon to destroy three straggling TIE fighters, the Blazemaker exploded since it was overloaded with cannons.[4]

Aftermath

Zander survived the explosion and was hurled against the command bridge of the Home One. He remarked that he had gone too far but Rowan reassured him that he was a hero of the Rebellion.[4] Later, the Freemakers took part in a mission to rescue Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca.[2]
