Raphael Mar-Shayal was a male pilot of the Alliance to Restore the Republic who lived during the time of the Galactic Civil War. Sometime following the Battle of Yavin, Mar-Shayal hid from the Galactic Empire on the slopes of Mount Chaolt, a volcano on the planet Lok. Mar-Shayal was suspected by then Colonel Maximilian Veers as being involved in the destruction of the Death Star. In light of this, Colonel Veers tasked an Imperial operative with tracking down and killing Mar-Shayal, alongside two other suspects, Aramis Kariya and Fen Corandel.

Raphael Mar-Shayal was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3] Raphael Mar-Shayal was added to the game with the revamped "Imperial Theme Park,"[2] released with the "Chapter 6.12" update, on September 13, 2007.[4]

Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
