Quian was a terrestrial[2] planet[3] located in the Quian system of the Core Worlds.[1] It was home to a Human population known as the Quians.[2]

The Quian Benald Orlan was born[2] at some point no earlier than 20 BBY[4] in a family that included his Quian parents, Karin Orlan and her husband, as well as several younger siblings. By the time of the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, Quian was under the control of the Empire, and the Orlan family resided at a household there.[2]

At some point, Benald sold out his family to the local Imperial authorities and he went on to study at the off-world Imperial University of Marngar III. Quian's role in Benald's biography was eventually noted by the New Republic General Airen Cracken in an entry of the datafile Wanted by Cracken[2]—the initial version of which was published in 7 ABY[4]—dedicated to Benald.[2]

Behind the scenes

Quian was first mentioned in the "Wanted by Cracken" segment of the November 1994 fourth issue of West End Games' Star Wars Adventure Journal. The segment was authored by C. Robert Carey.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Quian system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square L-9.[1]

The latter work is dated to three years after the Battle of Endor, and since The New Essential Chronology dates that conflict to 4 ABY, the placement of the sourcebook therefore translates to 7 ABY. Furthermore, the installment of "Wanted by Cracken" in Star Wars Adventure Journal 4 establishes Benald Orlan is twenty-seven years old, meaning he must have been born at some point no earlier than 20 BBY.
