Quest for Quasar was an adaptation of a book into a holofilm made in 23 BBY by Myris Pictures with their proprietary HoloMaker 4.0.

Holoactor Harlan Ottekvar was to portray Lord Baltharog, but reaction to the decision to use him was criticized by fans of the original work. Reasons included Ottekvar being too short to portray Baltharog and that Ottekvar was too famous.

Groz Niclari was the staunchest critic of the decision and collected nearly 1.5 million signatures in his online petition to have Ottekvar replaced. He referenced the height discrepancy, although some fans were quick to point out that the 1.89 meters that he proposed came from a spin-off source, and thus was not canon.

Behind the scenes

Quest for Quasar was mentioned in an issue of the HoloNet News feed (2002), Volume 531, Issue 51. The article that referenced the film, titled "Quest for Quasar Fans Don't Like Ottekvar," was written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens.

Whether or not the film was released in 22 or 23 BBY is ambiguous as the article only indicated that it was set for release "next summer".
