Public Works was a department of the Galactic Republic government. Over a century prior to the rise of the Galactic Empire, Public Works purchased ten thousand RC-M General Utility Droids to perform simple maintenance and repair duties on Coruscant. Each droid was dispatched after Public Works painted their logo on the chassis, and affixed a combination restraining bolt/locational transponder.[1]
