Peppel was an Outer Rim Territories planet in the Corva sector. In 17 ABY, the wanted Devaronian former army captain Kardue'sai'Malloc fled to Peppel, where for the following two years he resided in a simple hut that was protected by a sophisticated security system. Eventually, the bounty hunter Boba Fett tracked Kardue'sai'Malloc to Peppel, where, eschewing his combat armor and wielding only a bow and knife in order to bypass the Devaronian's security system, Fett captured the fugitive and went on to deliver him to the world Devaron for execution.
Description
Peppel was a terrestrial[4] planet[6] located in the Peppel system, a part of the Corva sector[1] in the New Territories portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1] A quiet[7] and primitive world,[5] Peppel featured on its surface an area with clearings and mud.[4]
History
Boba Fett captured Kardue'sai'Malloc (pictured) on Peppel.
In 17 ABY,[8] after killing on the planet Tatooine[4] of the Outer Rim's Arkanis sector[9] four mercenaries who had recognized him, the Devaronian Kardue'sai'Malloc,[4] a former army captain[10] on whom a bounty of five million credits had been posted and who was living under the alias "Labria,"[4] fled to Peppel.[5] There, he resided in a simple hut where he ate slaughtered animals[4] and spent his time drinking Merenzane Gold liquor and curating[10] his extensive collection of very rare music.[4]
Two years later,[5] the Human bounty hunter Boba Fett tracked Kardue'sai'Malloc to Peppel after tracing the sales of Merenzane Gold across the Arkanis sector. Leaving his starship, the Slave IV, outside the range of the sensors that formed a part of the security system installed around the Devaronian's abode, Fett approached the hut on foot, eventually also leaving a callback to the ship beyond the sensors' range, two kilometers away. Eschewing his suit of combat armor, the hunter made his final approach wearing nothing but shorts and armed with a compound bow and a crystal knife. Fett ultimately captured Kardue'sai'Malloc, and, after being forced by the latter to dig up his music collection, the bounty hunter led the Devaronian in boarding the Slave IV—which Fett had brought down for a landing closer to the hut. Subsequently, the vessel departed for[4] the Colonies world[9] Devaron, where Kardue'sai'Malloc would be executed.[4]
Locations
On Peppel, Kardue'sai'Malloc resided in a primitive[6] but spacious hut that lay next to a muddy clearing and had an open-air toilet ten meters away. Another clearing was located a few kilometers from the hut. The dwelling was protected by[4] an elaborate[5] security system that included tripwires, light traps, and motion sensors. Outside the hut, Kardue'sai'Malloc had buried his collection of music under a few centimeters of dirt.[4]
Behind the scenes
Peppel first appeared in "The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett," a short story by Daniel Keys Moran that was published in the 1996 anthology Tales of the Bounty Hunters.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Peppel system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square P-3.[3]
