Penegelen

Penegelen was a star^[1] located in the star system of the same name^[2] in the Inner Rim. It was orbited by a spherical cloud of debris known as the Penegelen Shards, which consisted of tumbling fragments of alloy, rock, and flash frozen dirt. Scientists believed that these shards once made up a shell which enclosed Penegelen. This shell was thought to have been a creation of an ancient species known as the Celestial.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Penegelen was originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however the sidebar that would have mentioned the star was cut before the book's release. The information regarding the star was later released in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Jason Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.^[1] An update to the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Daniel Wallace and Fry, placed the Penegelen system, and therefore Penegelen, in grid square L-14.^[2]
