- "Many work as fishermen and farmers, some even offering to take off-worlders on fishing excursions that let you catch and cook your own lunch on the banks of the flowing river."
- ―Eloc Throno, Travler's Guide to Batuu
The Peka river was a river near the Peka community on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. Many of Peka's inhabitants worked as fishermen and farmers, some of whom would offer to take off-worlders on fishing excursions where they could catch fish and cook their own lunch on the banks of the river. Peka's symbol represented a drop of water in the river, which signified the ripple effects their choices made on the community.[1] In 34 ABY,[2] the historian Eloc Throno mentioned the Peka river in his book Traveler's Guide to Batuu.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Peka river was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, as part of the backstory for the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge,[3] which opened to guests at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.[4] It was identified in the 2020 reference book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu, written by Cole Horton.[1] The river and surrounding Peka community were intended to resemble the Kern River in California.[3]

- ↑ Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu establishes that at the time of the book's setting the Resistance was based on Batuu. Star Wars: Timelines dates both the establishment of the Batuu Resistance base and its eventual relocation to Ajan Kloss to 34 ABY. Therefore, the in-universe guide must have been authored that year.
