"You can run but cannot walk. You have a mouth but cannot talk. You have a head but never weep. You have a bed but never sleep."
―Orphne's riddle, which activated the device[1]

Orphne's Fountain was a device[2] located in the Aleen Underworld, the subterranean wilderness of the planet Aleen,[1] based on either unknown technology or the Force. Upon answering a riddle posed by Orphne, any individuals near the fountain would be launched up to the surface of the planet by an enormous jet of water.[2]

During the Clone Wars, a mission was undertaken by the Galactic Republic to provide aid to the planet, which had undergone a series of groundquakes. The droids R2-D2 and C-3PO were among the group sent to Aleen, and ended up traversing the underworld to the Fountain, where they answered Orphne's riddle and were transported to the surface.[1] Unbeknownst to the leadership of the mission, agents were sent by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to record unusual Force-related phenomena, and they also interacted with the fountain. These agents gathered water in an object which came to be known as the Dram of Orphne, though that dram ended up in the possession of the Aleena inhabitants of the planet.[2]
