The Origin strand is the genetic code for the Ashiga Clan that is used to create more Melitto for the hive. Having possession of the strand gave the holder authority over the hive.[1]
In 3 ABY,[2] the clan stored the origin strand in a cryochamber in their stronghold in Kijimi City on the Mid Rim planet Kijimi. During that year, Krisk Ashiga, the daughter of the current Queen Ashiga, plotted a coup with the assistance of Crimson Dawn, Kay Vess and Ank Parako. After breaking into the stronghold and disabling the stronghold's defenses, Vess discovered that Crimson Dawn was plotting to steal the origin strand and gain control over the clan. Vess managed to defend the strand from the Dawn and brought it to the clan's throne room under Krisk's direction. Once there, she was left with a choice to give the strand to Krisk, thus finishing the coup, or to give it to Queen Ashiga and stopping the coup.[1]
Behind the scenes
The origin strand was a quest item in the "Hive" quest in the 2024 video game, Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft.[1]
