The Onyx Bands of Cato Neimoidia were a set of priceless onyx necklaces owned by the Countess Alissyndrex delga Cantonica Provincion during the First Order-Resistance War. Sharing their name with the Colonies planet Cato Neimoidia,[2] the black jewelry was worn around the Contessa's puncture-proof skin[1] in 34 ABY[3] while she visited Zord's Spa and Bathhouse in Canto Bight,[4] the capital of the desert world Cantonica.[5]
The black jewelry served as a strong statement,[6] one that was clearly understood by Lexo Sooger, the star masseur of Zord's bathhouse. He felt intimidated by the Onyx Bands, viewing them as a symbol of Countess Alissyndrex's high status.[4] Some days after her visit to Zord's,[3] the Contessa wore the necklaces to the Canto Casino and Racetrack when it was unceremoniously trashed by a stampede of fathiers let loose by the Resistance operatives Rose Tico and Finn.[7]
Behind the scenes
The Onyx Bands of Cato Neimoidia were first described by Rae Carson in "Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing," a novella collected in the 2017 book Canto Bight. The collection, focusing on characters found in the eponymous casino city,[4] was released to promote the film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which first featured the Onyx Bands on screen.[7]

4 Reasons Canto Bight Is an Essential Read on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Canto Bight takes place a few days prior to Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary places in the same year as the Starkiller Incident. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places the Starkiller Incident in 34 ABY, meaning that both Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi and Canto Bight take place in the same year.
