Nutrient fluid was used to sustain the organic brains from seriously injured TIE pilots that were transferred into Shadow Droids. The brains were placed in a cocoon that was filled with nutrient fluids. The brains of B'omarr monks were placed in glassine jars that were filled with nutrient fluid.[1]
