Nunsteyn was a type of clear mineralized water crystal that could be found in most parts of the icey planet Kijimi. In its mineral form, it had a snowflake-like structure. Nunsteyn was used to make frostfire crystal shards, supposedly resilience-granting charms consisting of a small shard of nunsteyn hung from a string and imbued with the essence of frostfire also from Kijimi.[1]
In 3 ABY,[2] a unit of nunsteyn minerals worth 240 credits was part of the pot at a Kessel Sabacc table at a bar in Kijimi City on Kijimi where the gamblers Kufu and Fepo were playing. Elsewhere in the city, the smuggler Neva Yaranu had a frostfire crystal shard available to purchase for nine hundred credits.[1]
The thief Kay Vess won the nunsteyn minerals at the sabacc table after defeating Kufu and Fepo while trying to win a holodisc in the pot that contained a map to a vault in Kijimi City used by the smuggler Jet Kordo.[1]

Nunsteyn appeared in the 2024 Massive Entertainment video game, Star Wars Outlaws. The nunsteyn minerals are obtain as part of the optional quest "Jet Kordo's Legacy."[1]
