"Even been here before?"
"I've never even heard of it..."
Ania Solo and Jao Assam first time on Nalyd[3]

Nalyd was an Outer Rim planet and the homeworld of the Nalydians, a species of sentient, stocky humanoids. Its inhabitants practiced the death penalty on citizens who had broken the law, and it was there that Ania Solo and Jao Assam went in search of Darth Wredd's minion, Dieben, in 138 ABY.

View of Nalyd's environment

Nalyd was a terrestrial planet with an atmosphere suitable for most sentient species, including Humans. From orbit, the world appeared as a uniform brown sphere, devoid of any distinguishing features such as visible landforms or bodies of water. From the planet’s ground, the sky appeared to be suffused with a bright orange glow, while a thick mist limited visibility.[3]

The surface of Nalyd was dominated by colossal rock pillars, densely grouped together. The planet’s ecosystem seemed sparse, consisting mainly of jellyfish-like creatures that drifted in large numbers among the columns, and hairy six-legged beings adept at climbing up and down their immense heights. At the base of the rock pillars, liquid collected to form vast but desolate wetlands that glowed with a vivid green light, notable only for patches of stunted vegetation resembling clusters of sharp stakes.[3]

People

"This planet is not quite as cosmopolitan as I had hoped."

Nalyd was homeworld of the Nalydians, a species of sentient, stocky humanoids. This grim people built structures atop the stone pillars for their own purposes, hollowing out massive arenas within them. In navigating the complex landscape of their homeland, including reaching the peaks of the pillars, they relied on six-legged creatures that were harnessed for transport. The Nalydians abided by laws and could sentence serious offenders to public execution.[3]

History

"His name is Dieben. He had a criminal record on his home planet, so he was extradited back there... to Nalyd!"

Nalyd was a planet situated in the Outer Rim Territories, within the Tharin sector,[1] close to the border of the Hutt Space. The territorial affiliation of the region changed constantly, and various galactic conflicts did not pass the sector by.[5]

By the end of the rule of Darth Krayt's Sith Empire, Nalyd was not widely known and was regarded as a non-cosmopolitan world, where the population largely consisted of native inhabitants. Nevertheless, the Nalydians were not isolated; they maintained contact with the outside galaxy and even preferred to communicate in Basic. Around the same time, a dangerous terrorist named Dieben was active on the planet. He committed numerous atrocities, including the assassination of a minister, assault on a law enforcement officer, and the sabotage of public transportation that resulted in ten deaths. Many Nalydians wished for Dieben’s death, but he escaped justice and vanished among the stars, far from his homeworld.[3]

Eventually, Dieben was apprehended in the Surd Nebula by local security forces. He was quickly identified as a wanted fugitive and extradited to Nalyd, where he would face justice for his past crimes. Shortly before the trial, Imperial Knight Jao Assam and the junk dealer Ania Solo arrived on Nalyd, following their only lead to Darth Wredd – Dieben, who had once been in Wredd’s employ. Seeking to question him about Wredd’s whereabouts, Jao and Ania abducted Dieben from the arena where he was scheduled to be executed. During the escape attempt, however, Dieben was killed without disclosing any information about Wredd.[3] The Nalydian authorities later informed Jao and Ania that Dieben had influential associates in the Calamari system, prompting the pair to travel to Dac.[4]

Behind the scenes

The planet Nalyd first appeared in the seventh issue of the Star Wars: Legacy Volume 2 comic series. The cover tagline proclaimed «Descent into Danger!», depicting Nalyd as a bleak and treacherous world. However, in the actual storyline the planet turned out to be rather ordinary, bearing little resemblance to the perilous setting suggested by the misleading cover.
