A giant stone chess set was located on Naboo, a planet in the Chommell sector. This monumental compound had been built to celebrate the victory of the inhabitants of Naboo over the Trade Federation.
History
This monument was built to commemorate the victory of the united Gungan and Human people of Naboo against the Trade Federation armies[1] in 32 BBY.[2]
After the advent of the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY,[2] the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure sought to replace the banned podraces with deadly demolition derbies. One of those brutal contest took place on Naboo, using this monument as an arena.[1]
Layout
The center area of this monumental compound was a large square checkered board with statues of Gungan soldiers as white pieces and B1-series battle droids as black pieces. The outer area was a winding corridor that could be accessed by several grand staircases from the lower level. The corridor was overlooked by a statue holding a giant booma.[1]
