The Mournful Holocron was artifact of the early Jedi Order created by a Human Jedi Master named Tresalis. The holocron contained information on the ways of Force healing and bedside manner, relayed to the user by the gatekeeper, a simulation of Tresalis herself. Because of Tresalis' overwhelming sadness at the loss of a loved one, the holocron received its name. In order to access the holocron, a user had to first console its gatekeeper and help the part of Tresalis imbued in the holocron cope with her loss.[1]
The holocron was believed to have been stored at the Jedi Enclave on Aloxl, an ancient place from before the organization of the Jedi High Council. Rumor of the holocron's location was still spread after the rise of the Galactic Empire.[1]
