This article is about the subspecies of wampa native to the planet Copero. You may be looking for the cliff wampa, known colloquially as the mountain wampa.

The mountain wampa was a white and gold-furred subspecies of wampa that lived in mountainous climates, such as the planet Copero. The mountains around Inrokini Stronghold hosted a population of mountain wampas during the Third Galactic War.[1] At some point, an individual mountain wampa found its way to Hoth, where it became known as the "King of the Wampas" by the local White Maw pirates. This "King" was eventually killed by an individual.[2]

Behind the scenes

The mountain wampa was first named colloquially by writer Bart Farkas in the two strategy guides for Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire: Shadows of the Empire: Game Secrets and Shadows of the Empire: The Official Strategy Guide, published by Prima Games.[3][4] Farkas used the name to refer to the cliff wampa, which was an Imperial bioengineered subspecies of the wampa created c. 3 ABY and used to guard the local Imperial interests on the moon of Gall.[5]

The mountain wampa was later named in the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion for the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, where the mountain wampa is native to the terrestial planet Copero, and can be encountered in the flashpoint "A Traitor Amoungst the Chiss". This takes place c. 3629 BBY,[6] meaning it cannot be the same creature as the cliff wampa.
