"Some folk took possession of a base and the owners want it back. The new owners don't seem willing to let them take it back."
Sergeant Snopel, to a commando[1]

A bunker in the Gallo Mountains of the planet Naboo was used by a group of Naboo miners as their base of operations at the time of the Galactic Civil War.

Description

The largest room of the bunker

The largest room of the bunker

The building was located close to the Zaprin Estate,[2] at the foot of the Gallo Mountains, near the edge of the Lianorm Swamp, many kilometers southeast of the Lake Retreat. Most of the bunker was built underground. Only the small top level with the only entrance to the bunker was visible above ground. The two underground levels featured several rooms, used for various purposes. Several computer terminals were in use by the poachers. The biggest room on the lowest floor was used as a dining-hall.[1]

History

The bunker served as base of operations for a group of miners after the Battle of Yavin.[1]

In 1 ABY,[3] a group of criminals, the Mountain Poachers, and their trained narglatchs took over the bunker. One of the miners, Galuf Cardaan, then contacted Sergeant Snopel,[1] a retired Imperial commando,[4] in order to got rid of the poachers. Snopel therefore dispatched a group of commandos under training to deal with the criminals. The commandos attacked the bunker, killing some poachers and narglatches in the assault, and successfully reclaimed the building.[1]

Behind the scenes

The mountain poacher bunker was a location in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[5] The bunker was added to the game upon the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.[6] In the game, the bunker was only titled as the Occupied Bunker.[1]

  3. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
