A monitoring beacon was a device that could be used to listen in on transmissions. The pirate Scorza hid a monitoring beacon on the Meson Martinet, the starship of his rival Sidon Ithano. The monitoring beacon alerted Scorza when Ithano's crew picked up a distress signal from the wrecked cruiser Obrexta III.[1]
