The Mk VIII Gravitic Mortar Launcher, known simply as the Mk VIII, was an uncommon model of mortar manufactured by Golan Arms. It was designed to clear out minefields by firing a special round that could detonate anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mines using advanced gravitic technology. Like most mortars, the Mk VIII had a simple smoothbore tube, and was equipped with a tripod and firing mechanism. Upon detonating, its rounds produced powerful gravity fluctuations in a broad area, which triggered mines equipped with pressure or proximity sensors. The Mk VIII was commonly carried by engineers of the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[1]
