The mission to Felucia was a task assigned to Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas by the Jedi High Council prior to the Invasion of Naboo, where he was tasked with resolving a tribal dispute on the planet Felucia. Unbeknownst to the Council, Sifo-Dyas had been sent on a secret mission to Oba Diah to negotiate with the Pyke Syndicate by Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum. Sifo-Dyas, accompanied by the Chancellor's aide Silman, departed the negotiations for Felucia, but was assassinated by the Pykes on the request of a man they knew as "Tyranus,"[1] secretly the former Jedi Count Dooku, who had, unbeknownst to the Order, dipped into the dark side and started to work with the Dark Lord Darth Sidious,[4] publicly Naboo Senator Sheev Palpatine.[5] The Pykes shot down Sifo-Dyas shortly after the Battle of Naboo.[2]
Dooku and Sidious wished Sifo-Dyas dead in order to take control of the clone army Sifo-Dyas had secretly ordered from the cloners of the remote planet Kamino,[1] as he had foreseen a war coming that would require the Galactic Republic to have an army.[6] Dooku then travelled to Felucia with the body,[7] deceiving the tribal elders into thinking that Sifo-Dyas was still alive and that he was another Jedi who had accompanied him. The Sith Lord then faked Sifo-Dyas' death in the conflict and had his body cremated.[1]
The Jedi Council believed Sifo-Dyas had died on Felucia[1] until the last year of the Clone Wars,[8] when the wreckage of Sifo-Dyas' ship was uncovered on the Oba Diah moon, with his lightsaber still inside — clear proof that he could not have perished on Felucia. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sent to speak with the Pykes, and discovered the true circumstances of Sifo-Dyas' death and that the Sith had been responsible.[1]
Behind the scenes
The mission to Felucia was first mentioned in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "The Lost One."[1] The reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy says on Dooku's page that Dooku had ordered Sifo-Dyas's death before the events of "The Sith Lord,"[2] which occur during the Naboo Crisis.[4] However, on the page for Oba Diah later in the same book, the assassination is dated to shortly after the crisis.[2] This matches what is stated in Star Wars: Timelines, wherein it is said Dooku ordered the death after the Battle of Naboo.[9]
