Windu: "Safely deliver the Jedi Council's message to our allies on Albecus, but return quickly. We have foreseen much trouble on the horizon."
Yoda: "Yes, Obi-Wan. To Master Windu, you must listen! Coming are the dark times. United and ready, the Jedi must be, to stop them before it is too late."
Kenobi: "Not to worry, Master Yoda. At the controls of this ship, speed and safety are of little concern."
Mace Windu, Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi[2]

Some time preceding the events leading up to the Battle of Geonosis, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi was sent out on a mission by Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Yoda to safely deliver a message from the Jedi Council to their allies on the Core World of Albecus.

The mission

"Whoever you are, you're about to learn that the Jedi starfighter is full of surprises!"
Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Jango Fett[2]

During his flight from Coruscant to Albecus aboard his prototype Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor, Obi-Wan Kenobi was ambushed in an asteroid field by the Slave I, piloted by the bounty hunter Jango Fett. Kenobi's starfighter was damaged in the ambush, leaving him no other choice but to engage the Slave I. Fett was overwhelmed by the immense firepower of the Jedi starfighter and was forced to flee the battle, leaving Kenobi to continue on his journey and complete his mission.[2]
