Mining droidnaughts were a type of large, quadrupedal mining droid. The Galactic Empire utilized mining droidnaughts on the frozen planet Niraya in order to delve into the world's former cities, buried under kilometers of ice, and extract metals and minerals. When a group of rebels visited Niraya to retrieve the artifact known as the Grim Rose, the astromech droid R2-D2 sliced into one of the mining droidnaughts and used it to dig a path to the artifact's location.[1]
